Depression
Victims of bullying have been shown to have a much lower self-worth, self-esteem, and tend to look at themselves in a negative way. This usually leads to depression. Depression is defined as the feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy that often leads to tiredness, difficulty to concentrate and loss of interest in life. Many victims of severe bullying feel trapped in their own lives and feel that nothing is ever going to change and in some cases take their own lives because of these feelings.
Aggression
Bullying can be thought of as a complete loss of control over a persons life due to the influence of another person. People who have been bullied have been seen to show violent tenancies and even to become bullies themselves in order to regain a sense of control that they have been deprived of. The levels of aggression vary, however in the most extreme cases the victim has been seen to attack and kill others in an attempt to regain the control that they feel they have lost over their own lives.
Fear
The victims of bullying commonly experience fear. This fear can be so debilitating that they no longer want to leave their home because they don't feel safe. Some children are afraid to go to school because they don't want to be beaten up again or they don't want to have their lunch money stolen again, and they can't tell anyone what is happening to them because they are scared that the bully is just going to hurt them even more. It's almost like an invisible knife is being held to the throat of the victim preventing them from living their every day life and in most cases this leads to suicide.
Victims of Bullying
Tyler Clementi
Tyler Clementi was a teenager with his entire life ahead of him until his room-mate in college decided to bully him. Tyler was a normal teenager until his room-mate decided it would be funny to video tape him kissing his boy friend and post it to Youtube. Tyler was so ashamed of what had been done he had to jump off a bridge. So his room-mate's "harmless" prank killed him.
Seth Walsh
Another victim of bullying that took his own life. Seth Walsh was a thirteen year old boy that had a bright future ahead of him. When he began the fourth grade he was teased relentlessly because he was a little different; Seth's parents new he was gay from a very early age. When he was in the seventh grade he was afraid of a simple walk home from school, because he was bullied so intensely. At the age of thirteen he was forced to the point he felt he had to hang himself from the tree in his back yard, just because he was a little different.
Virginia Tech
Cho Seung-Hui was bullied in school because he was of Asian decent, because of the way he was treated he came to school and opened fire starting in the dorms and then moving into the buildings with classes. He killed 32 people before turning the gun on himself and all of this might have been avoided if people just could be kind to each other.
Columbine
Columbine high school is the most extreme case of what bullying can cause a group of people to do that has been seen in the US and quite possibly the world. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold wired the school cafeteria with propane tank based explosives and the cars outside with more explosives in order to "inflict the most deaths in US history"~Klebold. These two were victims of social alienation, so they made their own group, the trench-coat mafia. These boys were the only friends they had, so they naturally did everything together including being bullied. So now instead of each individually being called a freak they were called freaks. So they planned their revenge and almost killed 600 students and faculty, luckily thanks to their terrible wiring skills none of the bombs went off and they only managed to kill 13. If someone was willing to just be their friend and accept them maybe, just maybe we wouldn't have the Columbine massacre.
And many more...
Bullying occurs everyday the only way to prevent more victims and tragedies like these is to prevent bullying. We have to fix this problem.
